This day had to come

Marge (opening refrigerator): Homer, didn't you get any milk? All I see is egg nog.
Homer: 'Tis the season, Marge! We only get thirty sweet noggy days--and then the government takes it away.
--The Simpsons, "Marge Be Not Proud"

Just finished my annual bag of Cadbury Mini-Eggs. Feeling sad. I'm purely a seasonal confection consumer, and the long string of sugar-oriented holidays that began with Halloween is finally at an end.

(pause)

Yeah, I'm behind schedule on the manuscript and needed a quick blog post. How did you guess?

Name your favorite holiday sweet, and make us drool.

Easter is a great time for sweets. Peeps are still mt favorite. But I love the traditional Italian Easter pizze (pies) made with a ricotta filling. We also used to make soft biscotti, which I like better than the hard stull. Best of all, we'd shape biscotto dough into shapes, such as Easter baskets and dolls. The
n we'd place a hard boiled egg in the center before baking, and afterwards glaze and spnrinkle with jimmies. Yummm. My cousins and I still make the pizze, but the dolls are too time consuming.

Okay, Cecelia passed her Italian test. I am guessing she is Napolitan. LOL!

Growing up we did all that stuff with making the baskets with Easter bread (which is sweeter more like Challah then normal Italian bread.

We did pizze, too. But trust me on this, it will kill you pocketbook to make it and then kill your arteries when you eat it.

Wafer thin pizelles...mmm...nice memory.

Anyhoo... in answer to the question from Jeri, CHOCOLATE COVERED STRAWBERRIES!!!!

Yum!

I'm a mutt...Sicilian, Neopolitan, Abruzzse, and Tuscan, yes, my Tuscan grandmother had red hair and freckles, though my Siggie grandfather had blond hair and blue eyes. (Must have been those raping and pillaging Norsemen.) But my mother's mother was Napolitan. Oh, my daughter makes a mean pizzle with the iron Jeri gave her.

You've finished your Easter candy? Wow! I'm expecting the kids' to last through summer.... We haven't even unwrapped the solid chocolate bunnies....

I knew there had to be an positive side to having kids.

And I'd like to say, though this may get me exiled from Baltimore, Mary Sue Easter Eggs are overrated. Give me a Log Cabin easter egg any day.

Those are the gay conservative Easter eggs, right?

That's okay Cecilia. I know quite a few red-haired Sicilians.

My paternal grandad came from Calabria (a spit away from Sicily, FYI) and had light brown hair and blue eyes.

So, I like to think that I have some of that Norse blood in me...along with everything else.

Jeri give pizzelle irons???

Now THERE'S a contest prize!
