Now this is cool

Yesterday an amateur astronomer in France took a photo (from earth, obviously, since that's where France usually is) of the space shuttle Atlantis separating from the International Space Station as they passed in front of the sun.

Check it out here at Spaceweather.com. The photo probably will only be up on their home page a couple of days, and since they don't give separate URL's to their articles, it'll be gone soon.

And no, it's not a hoax. The Spaceweather.com people know real amateur astronomers from Loch Ness Monster-shooters.

Very cool -- although I confess I half-expected to see a Boston album cover.

That is such a cool photo. Not only do you see ISS and Atlantis very clearly, but the photo just happens to be taken at a time when there is hardly any sunspot activity. This is what we in the astopysics community call "bitchin'"
