RT Reviewers Choice award

According to SF author Elizabeth Bear's blog (scroll down past "Progress notes"), Eyes of Crow has been nominated for a Romantic Times Magazine Reviewers Choice award for Best Fantasy. It's a pretty big deal, as I recall from years past.

Here are all the nominees in that category:

Dawn of Empire. Sam Barone
Sebastien, Anne Bishop
Armageddon's Children, Terry Brooks
Beguilement, Lois McMaster Bujold
His Majesty's Dragon, Naomi Novik
Eyes of Crow, Jeri Smith-Ready
Wolf Who Rules, Wen Spencer

Nice company, eh? I don't stand a chance of winning against the likes of these folks, but it's sweet to get the recognition. I haven't found confirmation of this on the RT website yet, and I'm not sure how one goes from being a nominee to a Big Fat Winnah*, but I'll let you know.

Click on the link above to see the nominees for the other spec fiction categories.

UPDATE: Here's the link for all the RT Reviewers Choice nominees.

*Worse, I don't know if Reviewers Choice should have an apostrophe before or after the 's' or none at all. I'd hate to get Bob the Angry Flower on my case.

Awesome! I'm so happy for you. Can I vote for you?

Thanks, everyone! Cecilia, no, you can't vote for me, unless you've started moonlighting as an SF/F reviewer for RT without telling us. My guess is that each reviewer nominates one book and then all the other reviewers in that category read each of the nominees and pick an overall winner.

The reviewers for the spec fiction categories are spec fic reviewers, not romance reviewers. So they're judging them by how good a fantasy/sf book they are. Last year they separated paranormal romances into their own review category, leaving straight sf/f in its own category just like straight mysteries and straight mainstream fiction have their own categories.

Fantastic Jeri. I just finished reading it (I had to pry it away from my wife) and loved it. Much differnt from Requeum. It reminded me of my favorite fantasy writer from the past, Patricia Wrede. Now the problem is waiting for the next one.

Congratulations! It's well deserved. I recently re-read it and was re-impressed.

Congrats Jeri! Well deserved!

And I think you have one heck of a chance of winning!

Thanks, Sharon & Vivi! Don, I'm glad you liked it. It is quite different from Requiem, from anything else I've ever written (except Voice of Crow, obviously), as a matter of fact. I move back into urban fantasy with the vampire series, but there are two more Crow books to come!

I haven't read Eyes of Crow yet, but I thought Requiem for the Devil was fantastic, so I'll pick Eyes of Crow up soon.

Congratulations on your nomination.

Thanks, writtenwyrd! Let me know what you think of it. It's always interesting to hear people compare the two books, because they're so different.

I should have mentioned I recommended Requeim For The Devil in my blog, too. Eyes of Crow is in amazon limbo, so I haven't read it yet, lol. (I live 120 miles from the nearest book store, so it's mail order for me!)

Thanks for the rec, writtenwyrd! I love your blog, BTW.
