The Music of Wicked Game

Wicked Game coverSince Wicked Game is about vampire DJs, it’s not surprising that music inspired a lot of the novel’s creation and development. Now, thanks to The Playlist Project and Pandora.com, I can share some of that music with you!

The Official Playlist

Specific songs appear in many scenes in the novel, some by name and artist, and some only by artist. My publisher asked me to gather these songs in a ‘playlist’ for the front of the book. The fun part was figuring out which tune was playing when only the artist was mentioned (i.e., “a Bob Dylan song”).

To see all songs, drag the white scrollbar on the right side of the playlist.

Additional Playlist Songs:

  • “I’ll Never Get Out of These Blues Alive” by John Lee Hooker
  • “Gallows Pole” by Lead Belly
  • “Dreadlocks in Moonlight” by Lee “Scratch” Perry
  • “Ciara” by Luka Bloom
  • “The Old Main Drag” by The Pogues (I substituted “Dirty Old Town,” since it was a close second choice for the playlist in the book itself)
  • “Fearless Heart” by Steve Earle (I substituted the perfectly adequate Counting Crows cover version)

  • Chapter Title Song List

Each chapter is named after a popular song, from the 1940s to our current decade. I chose them for how well the words of the titles (as opposed to the content of the songs) fit the chapters, so this list is much less of a “soundtrack” than the “Playlist” above. But it’s still a great bunch of tunes.

To see all songs, drag the white scrollbar on the right side of the playlist.

    Additional Chapter Title Songs:

  • “The Revolution Starts…Now,” by Steve Earle
  • “I’m Not Like Everybody Else,” by The Kinks (I substituted the Chocolate Watchband cover)

  • Coming soon—Shane’s “5:54 am” songs!
